On a daily basis I find myself telling patients who present with high blood pressure, diabetes, joint problems, heart disease, sleep apnea, and multiple risks for cancer “ THERE IS NO MAGIC PILL” to defeat obesity. Yet there is a low cost, highly effective solution to avoiding many of the aforementioned diseases and living a longer healthier life. Walking… Yes Walking!
I can’t begin to tell you the amazing success stories I have witnessed as a result of people incorporating a consistent moderately intense walking program and eating a healthier diet comprised of more fruits and raw vegetables. With all that said, things you already know, it is still a huge challenge motivating individuals to GET UP AND MOVE. But I am excited about an amazing program we have created to help you combat obesity.
I would like to personally invite you to participate in City Walk City Fit our soon to be national initiative to inspire adults and kids to pause the videos games, log off Facebook, head outdoors and experience the incredible health benefits of walking just 30 minutes, 5 days a week.
Over the years I’ve learned in order to motivate people to change, it has to be a priority and fun. Well if you’ve spent any time on DrFaithTV you already know that your health IS a priority. Our job is to make walking fun.
If you are from Tampa, do you remember years ago when everyone would go to Riverfront park on Sunday just to be seen? There was no event planned, no major entertainment or sports figure was going to be there, but yet EVERYONE had to be there. That same buzz of excitement is what we are creating again here in Tampa. And instead of aimlessly walking around to see and be seen, we will be walking with a purpose but still having fun.
During this family fitness day, kids will be involved in double dutch jumping contests, playing catch or ball with college or pro athletes while the adults will be able to attend clinics on walking for weight loss, family nutrition 101 and the ABC’S of effective running whether your 21 or 81.
The Event
During our monthly events we will have brief health screenings (BMI-body mass index, BP-blood pressure, BS-blood sugar).
There will be a 1 mile walk.
Event officials will be enrolling adult participants in CityWalkCityFit walking clubs throughout the city.
Kids will have the opportunity to sign up for double dutch and running teams where they can continue to work out with other kids year round.
Continuity is the Key
After the event, all participants will have the ability to sign up for online CityWalkCityFit coaching and buddy forum.
This incredible online tool will be an interactive site where members will achieve the following:
Post and track your daily steps or miles walked.
Blog and connect with both local and national CityWalkCityFit club members.
Upload pictures and list favorit walking locations in your part of town.
Establish new CityWalkCityFit clubs in your area.
Read or watch various videos on healthy cooking and walking.
The “Ask an Expert” section will answer critical health and workout questions you may have.
The “Open Mic” section will allow CityWalkCityFit members to share how walking is helping their blood pressure, diabetes and their stress.
